SHEBOYGAN — A car was destroyed after a teenager dropped a lit sparkler onto a package containing others, setting the vehicle on fire, police said.
"The passenger decided to light the sparkler in the vehicle while they're traveling down the street," Capt. Bob Wallace said of the Thursday night incident. "He ended up dropping it between his feet, which then ignited the package of sparklers that was laying between his feet."
The passenger, an 18-year-old Plymouth man, had glass in his hand because heat from the fire shattered a window. An 18-year-old Sheboygan man who was driving the car was treated for burns.
The two men stopped the car and threw a blanket on the fire in an attempt to smother the flames, but the blanket caught on fire, according to Wallace.
Alcohol does not appear to have been a factor, Wallace said. www.greenbaypressgazette.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060708/GPG0101/607080491/1207/GPGnews Oh the stupidity of some people..
