I voted 'I'm not sure'. I really think that some of their extreme ideas push people away but they are a great help to the animal rights cause.

I like them...so I'm in-between "love" and "they're okay". I think that some of the "extreme" ideas may not be the best approach...sometimes I don't want to show my stubborn friends pictures and videos from PETA. Why not? Well, for one, they already acknowledge that animals are treated very badly for food, but they don't really care to change. I want to show them (I do to some extent), but I don't want to push them away from the cause...you know how some people are like, "better out of sight - out of mind" and things like that. Also, I really want my friends and family to switch, but I don't want to force it down their throats either. Sometimes PETA does have good appraoches - like saying how you should take small steps to going vegetarian or vegan, if that will be easier on you. Then they come back and say that everyone should dump everything. Not that I don't agree with that approach, but it's just going to push some people away. I would rather have a bunch of people eat less meat and TRY to go vegetarian at their own pace/will, than to have just a select few people go vegetarian. If everyone in the world cut their meat consumption by just 10 - 25%, that would be EASY to do and would have a MUCH LOWER negative impact on the world, environment, animals, etc. In a perfect world, everyone would be vegetarian/vegan though... I was talking to one of my best friends and he basically told me that...I was sorta surprised, but it made me smile and I agreed 100%.

I find it really hard to think of PETA as an "extreme" organization. After all, they support controlled atmospheric killing and other welfarist approaches, they believe that animals "not in a bed are better off dead", and their advertisement is sexist and degrading. Check this PETA ad out: www.peta.org/feat/stateoftheunion/Are sexualized messages used by Amnesty International or Human Rights Watch? By sexualizing animal abuse and exploitation, it takes away any sort of serious and thoughtful message. Do they not think animal rights messages have merit in and of themselves? There are far more productive and ethically consistent messages out there. PETA may do some good work, but their shinanigans leave something to be desired.
