Very nice article on vegetarianism and non-violence. Unfortunately eggs and dairy were left out, which come from a very violent industry. "For as long as men massacre animals, they will kill each other. Indeed, he who sows the seeds of murder and pain cannot reap joy and love."
Pythagoras, 500 B.C. Our community/society/culture's increasing level and intensity of violence and aggressiveness can be attributed to many factors. One that has not been addressed is what we are feeding our kids and ourselves on a daily basis.
Food is elemental to life and eating is a voluntary, conscious act. All life is interconnected and reverence for life is an indicator of a civilized society. Our dependence on food factory farming (animal agriculture) and our addiction to decaying animal flesh is certainly playing a role in the expanding violence of our times. Meat eating contributes to a mentality of violence through "karmic consequences." Fear begets fear, fear begets violence, and violence begets violence. ...continued... www.guampdn.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070527/OPINION02/705270317/1014/OPINION

Very good article! It is a shame that eggs and dairy aren't mentioned. Isn't throwing babies in a grinder alive violent? That's what the egg industry does! Isn't searing beaks off of hens and locking them in cages for their whole lives violent? That's what the egg industry does! Isn't forcing a female cow into pregnancy (rape) and taking away her baby 1 day after birth violent? That's what the dairy industry does! Isn't sending babies away to be killed for veal violent? That's what the dairy industry does! Man the hypocrisy is sickening!
